Our club is open to all dogs over 8 months of age.
Please check with your veterinarian beforehand if you have any doubts about your dog's fitness/health for flyball. Dogs must be in good physical shape to participate in flyball and must not be carrying extra weight around, in order to prevent excess stress on the dog's body in this high-impact sport. If you are interested in doing flyball but your dog is perhaps a bit on the chubby side, we'll offer some tips to help get Fido into fine form.
We all lead busy lives and finding a balance between work and family is not easy. We believe in balance and welcome competitive and recreational flyballers. The amount of racing you do is up to you but weekly practice is a must -- anyway your dog will love you more for it! Not to mention that flyball practice beats a walk in the park any day!
We are great friends with Dog Gone Ballistic and get together regularly for some practice racing, a great opportunity to test the dogs and see how our training is progressing. For the recreational members it's an opportunity to race your dog without having to commit an entire day or weekend of your time.
Our competitive members travel to Region 20 tournaments (Eastern Ontario and Québec).
We use positive re-inforcement only -- clickers, toys, praise, and games -- to teach our dogs the game of flyball. We break down the flyball run into its basic elements and once the dog has mastered each individual element we gradually blend them together until the dog is doing a full run. Each dog is allowed to progress at her own pace. This method has worked very well as our dogs are quite obviously having fun. Even the shy ones can't resist!
Initial Joining Fee: $50 - This includes the first months' fee. The fees will be used to purchase equipment such as an additional flyball box, jumps, and matting.
Monthly Fee: A monthly fee of $25 per dog pays for the rental of the practice facility. Practice time at alternate venues and tournament fees will be paid by the participants as required.
We compete in both NAFA and U-Fli sanctioned tournaments. For details on these organizations, please visit NAFA or U-Fli.
